How to Make Layered Red, White, and Blue Jevo Shots for the Fourth of July

Are you ready for fireworks, burgers, and gelatin shots? Summer is on a roll, and the biggest spectacle of the season is almost upon us.

If you’re looking for an ooh- and ahh-worthy way to celebrate with your guests this Independence Day, look no further than these impressive three-layer shots. Gatorade® makes both a blue and a white cherry flavor so we use it for two of the three layers. This results in a delicious shot with an uncomplicated and prominent single flavor.

Independence Day Shots

This is a three-step recipe that makes 60 shots. You’ll need a steady hand and a little extra work space. If you’re short on time, scroll down for a variation on this recipe that uses two colors and makes 40 shots.

Total hands-on time: 30 minutes
Total chill time: 90-120 minutes
What you’ll need
  • 30 oz Pinnacle® Whipped® Vodka
  • 10 oz Gatorade® Frost® Glacier Cherry®
  • 10 oz Gatorade® Fierce® Blue Cherry®
  • 1/4 tsp blue food coloring
  • Two Plain Jane flavor pods
  • One Wild Cherry flavor pod
  • Four Jevo prep trays
  • Five packages of Jevo shot cups
  • Three Jevo tray lids
How to make them
Part 1

Have the following items ready: a Wild Cherry flavor pod, vodka, three Jevo prep trays, three packs of Jevo shot cups, and three tray lids. Fill one prep tray with shot cups, but leave the rest of the cups in their packages for now; it’ll make prep go by faster.

  1. Use Jevo’s Quick Prep setting to prepare a tray of shots with 10 oz vodka and a Wild Cherry flavor pod.
  2. When Jevo finishes dispensing, move the tray of shots onto a work surface near two empty shot trays. Grab a shot from the filled tray (we’ll call this Cup A) and grab two empty cups from the pack (Cups B and C). Pour a third of Cup A into B and C, so all three are evenly filled.
Everyone loves tips: It helps to keep the face on the Jevo shot cups toward you during this step. You’ll get faster with practice, too. If you prefer to use a measuring spoon, each layer should contain 3 tsp.
  3. Place Cups A, B and C into an empty tray. Keep going until that tray is full, then continue to the second empty tray, and finally start placing cups back into the original tray, which is now almost empty.
  4. Apply a lid to all three trays, stack them, and place them in the fridge until the shots are set.
Part 2

Have the following items ready: a Plain Jane flavor pod, 10 oz vodka, 10 oz Gatorade® Glacier Cherry®, one Jevo prep tray, one package of Jevo shot cups, and the three trays from part 1.

  1. Use Jevo’s Craft setting to prepare a tray of shots with 10 oz vodka and 10 oz of sports drink.
  2. When Jevo finishes dispensing, move the tray onto your work surface near the trays you just removed from the fridge. Similarly to step 2 of part 1, pour a third of the contents of each cup into each partially filled cup, taking care to keep all three shots evenly filled.
  3. Once each cup is two-thirds full, place it back the tray it came from. (Optionally, they can be placed in an empty tray).
  4. Apply a lid to all three trays, stack them, and place them in the fridge until the shots are set.
Part 3

Have the following items ready: a Plain Jane flavor pod, 10 oz vodka, 10 oz Gatorade® Blue Cherry, 1/4 tsp blue food coloring, one Jevo prep tray, one package of Jevo shot cups, and the three trays from parts 1 and 2.

  1. Use Jevo’s Craft setting to prepare a tray of shots with 10 oz vodka, 10 oz of sports drink, and 1/4 tsp blue food coloring.
  2. When Jevo finishes dispensing, move the tray onto your work surface near the trays you just removed from the fridge. Just like steps 1 and 2, pour a third of the contents of each cup into each partially filled cup, taking care to keep all three shots evenly filled.
  3. Once each cup is full, place it back in the tray it came from. (Again, you can put these in an empty tray if you prefer.)
  4. Apply a lid to all three trays, stack them, and place them in the fridge until the shots are set. They’ll be ready to serve.
