Celebrate Cinco de Mayo With Three Festive Jevo Shots

Are you planning a Cinco de Mayo fiesta for your guests? Also known as Anniversary of the Battle of Puebla, it commemorates the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over Napoleon III’s forces during the Franco-Mexican War.

It’s a relatively minor holiday in Mexico, but many of its celebrants in the United States take advantage of the opportunity to honor the culture and heritage of our southern neighbor.

See below for three recipes featuring tequila, which is made from the blue agave plant, mostly in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico.

Margarita

This one’s a classic, and you may have seen this recipe before. It’s so good, it’s worth repeating.

What you’ll need
  • 10oz Hornitos Plata Tequila
  • 3oz agave syrup
  • 3.5oz lime juice
  • 3.5oz lemon juice
  • Plain Jane flavor pod
How to make them

Pour the tequila, agave syrup, lime juice, and lemon juice into Jevo’s reservoir, pop in a Plain Jane flavor pod, select Craft, insert a loaded prep tray, and press Go. When Jevo is done preparing shots, cover the tray and place it in the fridge until the shots are set.

Pepino Picante

Meaning “spicy cucumber,” this packs a mean punch. Be warned!

What you’ll need
  • 3oz Sauza® Cucumber Chili Tequila
  • 2oz Hornitos® Spiced Honey Tequila
  • 2oz pineapple juice*
  • 2oz berry juice blend
  • 1oz amaretto
  • Orange Blossom flavor pod
How to make them

Pour all liquid ingredients into Jevo’s reservoir, pop in the Orange Blossom flavor pod, insert a loaded prep tray, and press Go. When Jevo is done preparing shots, cover the tray and place it in the fridge until the shots are set.

*Remember to use only pasteurized pineapple juice, because this fruit contains an enzyme that breaks down gelatin unless it’s heated first.

Jalisco Punch

What you’ll need
  • 6oz Hornitos® Añejo Tequila
  • 2oz ginger beer
  • 2oz pineapple juice*
  • Margarita Limeville flavor pod
  • Salt (optional)
How to make them

Pour all liquid ingredients into Jevo’s reservoir, pop in the Margarita Limeville flavor pod, insert a loaded prep tray, and press Go. When Jevo is done preparing shots, cover the tray and place it in the fridge until the shots are set. Optionally, salt the rim just before serving.

*Remember to use only pasteurized pineapple juice, because this fruit contains an enzyme that breaks down gelatin unless it’s heated first.
